Seeds Album
By Leah Rachael Emmertson |
|

|
The theme of this album is “Seeds.” Moms can’t help but
leave impressions on the hearts of all those they love. The seeds
they plant blossom into memories and traditions that can linger
for generations. This Mother’s Day, I wanted to show my Mom some
of the seeds she planted in my life and, consequently, in the
lives of her grandchildren.
Supplies:
Mini Paper Sacks, White-DMD Industries (Michael’s)
Walnut Stain Distress Ink-Ranger
Patterned Paper-KI Memories
Cardstock-Bazzill Basics
Various Ribbon-Making Memories
“Heidi” Rub-on’s-Making Memories
Miscellaneous embellishments
Instructions:
1. Take 10 Mini Paper Sacks and ink all the edges, front and back.
2. Cut 10 rectangle frames from your choice of cardstock. I used
Bazzill Cardstock in green, pink, brown, and blue. I cut the cardstock using the Rectangle
Frames Combo from Provo Craft.
3. The window in the rectangle frame should measure 2.25”x
1.25”. Ink the edges of the frames and adhere one to
the front of each paper sack.
4. Use the rub-on’s to spell out words inside of the
frames. The “seed” words that I used were Work, Health,
Sewing, Faith, Music, Food, Service, Books.
5. For the “Title Page” I spelled the word “Seeds” with
the rub-on’s inside a frame.
6. Cut 10 oval tags (2.5”x 4”) from your choice of cardstock.
I used beige cardstock and cut it with the Oval Tags Combo from
Provo Craft.
7. Cut 10 oval tags from you choice of patterned paper. I used the
Collection V Garden Theme from KI Memories.
Cut the patterned paper tags in half.
8. To assemble a tag, layer a patterned paper half-tag onto a
cardstock tag. Line up the edges and adhere them together. Repeat
until you have 10 tags.
9. Ink the edges of all 10 tags.
10. Thread ribbon through the holes on each tag and knot
the ribbon. I used a variety of Making Memory ribbons in blue,
green, pink, and even some twine.
11. Choose 9 photos to visually represent the “seeds” you have
chosen. Size them to a width of 1.5” and no taller than 2”.
12. Print the photos onto white cardstock and trim, leaving a thin
white border around each photo. Adhere the photos to the front of
9 tags.
13. Choose an embellishment for each tag.
For the “title page” I used a Junkitz button that says “Mom”.
For Work-Bee Token from Doodlebug Design
For Health-A generic heart button.
For Sewing-Safety pin and spool buttons from Dress-It-Up
For Faith-A knocker from Foofala
For Music-An Ice Cube accent from KI Memories
For Food-A rolling pin from Michael’s
For Service-Paper flowers secured with a brad from Making Memories
For Books-A spiral paperclip from Making Memories
14. I left one tag blank to add a “seed” later, for a
woman’s work is never done (grin!).
15. Write your journaling, explaining why you are thankful for the
seed your mom planted, or describing how the seed has become a
memory or tradition. For example… “Sewing: Remember the
homemade Bermuda shorts? I do! I also remember choosing patterns
and fabrics for homemade school clothes. I still have the homemade
doll clothes you made for my Cabbage Patch Kid one Christmas. In
our house, we have homemade curtains, blankets, dragons, and
Halloween costumes. What a handy thing to know!”
16. Use an easy to read font such as Arial (Microsoft Word) and
size it a point size of 8-10. The journaling should fit in a
3.25” x 1.25” strip.
17. Print and trim your journaling. Adhere a journaling strip onto
the back of each tag.
18. Slide the tags into their corresponding sacks and tie them all
together with twine. Place the finished packet into a little metal
bucket with a silk flower, seeds, or plant marker.

Images
of Young Mom
By Leah Blanco Williams |

|
I love my mom. Her story has inspired me so
often in my adult life. For this album, I collected photos of her
from the 70’s and 80’s -- photos of an immigrant, a hard
worker, a hard player, a supercute and sassy chick, a young mom
figuring it all out with a smile on her face. They are images of
love, sacrifice, strength and fun. I wanted to make this album for
her so I could show her all of the good things I see when I look
at her.
1. Create an insert that will become your CD cover. I chose to
make a dedication booklet by stapling together two pieces of 4¾”
x 9½” patterned cardstock.
2. Carefully pull out and remove the section of the jewel case
that holds the CD. This will make enough room to insert a mini
album.
3. Create an accordion-style booklet by taping together four
pieces of 4½” x 11” patterned cardstock with double-sided
tape. (I recommend Therm O Web’s SuperTape!) Use a scoring blade
or ruler and bone folder to get clean, precise creases.
CD case albums offer many creative possibilities. I have to say
that using 100% see-through jewel cases are ideal! (I found a
10-pack by Memorex for $2.96 at WalMart.) This gives you plenty of
blank canvases and opportunities to personalize your project.
Remember you can also “lumpy up” the front and back of the
case with embellishments.
To determine the size of your booklet, measure the case (hint: the
front of the case is a different size than the back!) or use an
existing insert from your favorite music CD as a guide. The more
lightweight your paper, the more pages you can fit. Double-sided
patterned paper is the ideal paper to use for this project! I used
paper
by We R Memory Keepers for this CD album so both the front and
back of my booklet would be nice and colorful.
Instead of inserting a booklet, use the case to hold a disc
containing favorite photos or songs. Temporarily remove the inside
of the jewel case and insert a message or photos in the back. When
the CD is removed, the background will peek out from the case! You
could also make a conventional booklet but insert a disc into a
pocket page or decorative CD sleeve. Permanently adhere the front
or back page of your booklets to the case or keep the booklet
removable.

Mom & Me 8x8
Album
by Tana Lyon |
|

|
This is
an 8x8 Album I made for my Mom. Supplies used:
Wild Asparagus Paper
Wonderful Words Rub-Ons
Variety of Ribbon & Twill
Making Memories metal embellishments
Making Memories foam stamps (corners)
craft store paint
sewing (appropriately a sewing machine my Mom gave me!)
I went through my Mom's photo albums and these were ALL of the
pictures I found of us together. Sadly there were only 9 pictures
of us together! I scanned them in, printed them out in 5x7 size,
and then assembled this album in less than 1 day. I'm giving it to
her tomorrow for Mother's Day -- I hope she likes it! And Moms,
please remember to come out from behind the camera once in awhile!
